Come Inside

By Ilya Chervony · American Chanson

Read lyrics
I knocked on her door on a Friday night, Wearing my jacket and a smile too wide. She said, “You came here for a reason, right?” I said, “Baby, can I come inside?” She laughed and said, “Don’t rush the game, Everybody says the very same.” I said, “I’m not here just to cross the line, I’m here to stay for a little time.” I came to her to come inside, Not just for a moment, not just for the ride. Inside her heart, inside her mind, That’s the place I was hoping to find. She said, “Boy, you better understand, There’s more to love than a one-night plan.” I smiled and said, “Baby, you’re right… But can I come inside tonight?” She had a laugh that could stop a train, A little bit wild, a little insane. She knew my jokes before I spoke, She knew my stories before they broke. I brought my guitar, I played one song, She said, “Maybe you’re not so wrong.” I said, “The door is open, the stars are bright…” She said, “Come in… but behave tonight.” I came to her to come inside, Looking for love, not somewhere to hide. Inside her laughter, inside her soul, That’s where a lonely heart feels whole. She said, “Life is funny, don’t you see? The best surprises come naturally.” I said, “Baby, that’s my favorite sign… When you let me come inside.” Some doors are locked, some doors are wide, Some take courage, some take time. The best place you’ll ever find… Is where somebody lets you inside. I came to her to come inside, With a little hope and a little pride. The joke was funny, the feeling was real, She opened the door… and I learned how to feel. Inside her heart, inside her life, I found a reason to stay that night.
