Long Way
By Ilya Chervony · American Chanson

I left the city before sunrise,
With a road beneath my wheels.
A thousand miles were waiting,
A thousand things to feel.
I passed the towns and old horizons,
The places I once knew.
Some memories stayed beside me,
Some disappeared from view.
Every mile, every night,
Every wrong turn, every light.
It’s a long way from the first hello,
To the last goodbye we say.
It’s a long way through love and sorrow,
Through the nights and through the days.
Every mile tells a story,
Every road remembers names.
I was looking for a destination…
But I became the road along the way.
I saw the sunrise over highways,
I watched the rain fall down.
I found a little piece of heaven
In every forgotten town.
Some hearts were made for staying,
Some hearts were made to roam.
But every road I traveled
Was leading me back home.
Every dream, every scar,
Shows us who we really are.
It’s a long way from the first hello,
To the last goodbye we say.
It’s a long way through love and sorrow,
Through the nights and through the days.
Every mile tells a story,
Every road remembers names.
I was looking for a destination…
But I became the road along the way.
We spend our lives chasing places…
Chasing people…
Chasing answers.
But sometimes the road itself
Is the answer.
Sometimes the miles behind us
Are the only proof
That we were alive.
It’s a long way from where we started,
To the person we become.
It’s a long way through the darkness,
To find another morning sun.
Every mile tells a story,
Every road remembers names.
I wasn’t searching for a destination…
I was learning why I came.
Long way…
Still a long way home.
