Road to the Sunset

By Ilya Chervony · American Chanson

Read lyrics
The road goes to the sunset — take your time. No trick will save you, night will cross your line. Pray to all four corners if you please — But all the gods on earth were made by men like these. Don’t hurry. Spare the horses, let them breathe. A driven horse is frightened of the eve. To wait the night out — that’s the safest part. Desires mean nothing to a tired heart. Don’t rush… You won’t outrun your fate. You can’t go round it, can’t escape. The road is long, the light is thin — Don’t fear the night. It’s part of the dream. The road goes to the sunset — fragile glow, It lights the way, but doesn’t warm you so. What comes with night? No answer comes. You’ve grown more skilled — not wiser than before. Don’t hurry. Fate can’t be outrun. No shortcut, no escape, no turn undone. What comes after night — who truly knows? What kind of end this foolish story chose? Don’t rush… You won’t outrun your fate. No turning back, no second gate. The road is long, the light is thin — Don’t fear the night. It’s part of the dream. Weeds by the roadside, dust and rain… This road was never smooth or plain. But still — it was a beautiful way. Every step. Every day. Don’t rush… The sunset fades from sight. The road remembers all your life. Whatever waits beyond the bend — Don’t fear the night. It’s not the end. The road goes to the sunset… Don’t rush. Don’t fear the night.
