Whispers of the Road

The road has a voice…
Not loud, not harsh —
Just a whisper through the glass,
Through the tires, through the night.
If you listen long enough,
You start to believe she’s talkin’ only to you.
I’ve watched the dawn break over empty plains,
Paintin’ silver on the hood of my rig.
I’ve seen towns wake up with the smell of bread,
And I’ve left before the streets knew my name.
That’s the way it is —
Always arriving, always leaving.
Whispers of the road, callin’ me near,
Stories in the wind only I hear.
Lonely horizon, endless sky wide,
The road is my song, my sorrow, my guide.
Sometimes the lines on the pavement blur,
And I can’t tell if I’m drivin’ forward…
Or just circling back through memories I lost.
Her smile in the doorway,
The child’s voice I barely remember…
They ride with me in the rearview,
Always close, never there.
Whispers of the road, callin’ me near,
Stories in the wind only I hear.
Lonely horizon, endless sky wide,
The road is my song, my sorrow, my guide.
Still… there’s peace out here.
When the stars scatter above the cab,
When the world is sleeping
And it feels like it’s only me and the highway.
In those moments… I belong.
Whispers of the road, callin’ me near,
Stories in the wind only I hear.
Lonely horizon, endless sky wide,
The road is my song, my sorrow, my guide.
The road don’t promise nothin’…
But she always keeps me company.
